ingredients

1 package (12 ounce size) milk chocolate chips
1 cup reduced-fat peanut butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt

directions

Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Place the bowl in the microwave and heat at 50% power for 2 minutes. Stir the chips until smooth. If the chocolate hasn't fully melted, cook them at 50% power for 15 second intervals, stirring well, until the chocolate is melted. Do not overcook the chocolate.

Place one teaspoon of the melted chocolate in the bottom of a paper muffin liner. Using the teaspoon, spread the chocolate evenly on the bottom and 1/2-inch up the sides. Place the paper liner in a muffin tin to help keep its shape. Repeat with the remaining paper liners. Place the muffin tin in the refrigerator to harden the chocolate.

Combine the peanut butter, powdered sugar, and salt in a microwave-safe bowl. Mix until uniform in color. Place the bowl in the microwave and heat on full power for 1 minute.

Spoon a small amount of the peanut butter filling into each hardened chocolate shell, leaving room for the top layer of chocolate. Return the muffin tin to the refrigerator to set the filling. Let it chill for 1 hour.

Reheat the remaining melted chocolate. Spread a layer of chocolate over the top of the peanut butter filling in each paper liner. Return the peanut butter cups to the refrigerator and let harden for 30 minutes.

When ready to serve, remove the paper liners from the peanut butter cups.

recipe tips

Fill the liners carefully to avoid spilling chocolate over the edges.

Chill the chocolate shells until they are completely hard before adding the filling.

Spoon the peanut butter filling gently to maintain the shape of the chocolate shell.

Make sure the peanut butter filling is chilled and firm before adding the final chocolate layer.

Spread the top layer of chocolate evenly for a neat appearance.

Chill the completed peanut butter cups until the chocolate is fully set.

Experiment with different types of chocolate for a variety of flavors.

Remember to remove the paper liners before serving for easy eating.

common recipe questions

What type of chocolate chips work best for the candy shell?

Milk chocolate chips are ideal for a classic taste, but semi-sweet or dark chocolate can be used for a less sweet option.

Can I use natural peanut butter in this recipe?

Yes, but natural peanut butter may be oilier, so you might need to adjust the powdered sugar amount.

How do I prevent the chocolate from burning in the microwave?

Heat the chocolate at 50% power and stir frequently, heating in short intervals.

How thick should the chocolate shell be?

Aim for a thin, even layer about 1/2-inch up the sides of the paper liners.

Can I make these peanut butter cups without a microwave?

Yes, you can melt the chocolate and peanut butter mixture using a double boiler over simmering, not boiling, water on the stove.

How do I know when the chocolate shell is set?

The chocolate should be firm to the touch and not leave fingerprints.

Can I add anything to the peanut butter filling for variation?

Try adding a small amount of vanilla extract or a pinch of cinnamon for a flavor twist.

How do I get the peanut butter cups to come out of the liners easily?

Make sure the chocolate is fully set in the refrigerator before attempting to remove the liners.

What's the best way to store homemade peanut butter cups?

Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep them fresh.

These are awesome! They taste just like the real deal. They are a bit of work to make but the results are worth it if you want true copycat of the store-bought version.

I work in a candy shop, the recipe is good, but your making it too long of a process.once you spoon in chocolate brushing up sides isnt necessary nor is warming peanut butter.simply alllow bottom chocolate to harden in freezer(5 minutes).spoon in peanut butter..just leave a little room around sides of peanut butter for chocolate to flow down sides..then top with more melted chocolate.place in freezer another 10 minutes..Simple as that.

This is a good recipe, but it took entirely to long. It shouldn't have to take 3 hours, because all you have to do is put chocolate in, then peanut butter, then more chocolate, and then cool. Better yet, everyone in my family loved them. <33(:

I agree with the previous review - The work is not hard, its just tedious and time consuming. These are a hit though, people ask me to make them all the time.

This is too much work and takes too much time. All you have to do is melt the chocolate in a large bowl over a pot of boiling water, pour it in cups, add peanut butter, add more chocolate, stick it in the freezer and its done and ready to eat in 15-20 minutes.
